“Ever since I saw you on Robert Schuler's Hour of Power and listened to your book, "Lessons I Learned In The Dark", I've been a big fan.” Those were words to me from a friend, whom I’ve never met, in a recent email. His name is JD Lewis.
Like me, John lost his sight from Retinitis Pigmentosa. Like me, he loves art. Unlike me, he became a professional artist before he lost his sight. Not too long ago, he created a website featuring some of his artwork created in the 1980's. Even though I can’t see his art, every art print on the site has a detailed description and is screen reader friendly.
JD Lewis is a former wildlife artist with a collection of original drawings and paintings of North American animals and their habitats. At present, he has lost roughly 95% of his vision; therefore, he is no longer producing new artwork. However, he possesses enough original wildlife art that may have great appeal to the animal lover, or wildlife enthusiast.
I wanted to pass this information along to anyone who may love animals, or the outdoors. And, I just appreciate his tenacity. It’s tough to lose something you love but rather than being bitter and isolated, he takes that which he can no longer see and makes it available for others to enjoy. That’s my kind of guy!
Visit his website, read his story and view his detailed, high quality Giclees prints at,
